In this program, participants are part of a Malawian fishing crew!
The villagers on the shores of the Malawi Lake have been dependent on the lake for many generations to provide food and income. This huge lake, also called Nyassa Lake, is considered as the crown jewel of Malawi. Settling on the lakeside with locals for one or more weeks is a a great way to experience an authentic Malawi experience.
Participants have a unique insight into local life, families, their joys and challenges. This program reflects the lives of Malawians and allows them to learn more about their way of life, their world view, their culture and their customs.
The local life is organized around the lake and a typical day of this program might look like this:
A working day lasts 4-5h. Of course, fishing is also possible if the conditions allow it, depending on the weather and the difficulty!
The center is located in Mangochi, a coastal city between Malawi Lake and Malombe Lake. Called Fort Johnston in the colonial era, Mangochi is known for being a city with many water and fishing activities. Participants will be accommodated in full board in rooms equipped for 4 to 8 persons.
